USDA Shocker and a New Book Release!

The USDA Reverses Itself on Cholesterol!

The USDA committee which writes the Dietary Guidelines for Americans has been stuck in the 1970s for the last 45 years, but they are starting to see the light. No big announcement yet, but in the new 2015 guidelines (which have not been officially released yet) they are now saying that cholesterol, one of the nutrients the USDA has demonized over the past 45 years, is now “not a nutrient of concern.” They write:

“Cholesterol. Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 mg/day. The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol, consistent with the conclusions of the AHA/ACC report. Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.”

Type 1 Diabetes Book Release!

The Ketogenic Diet for Type 1 Diabetes eBook is now available! As a treatment for diabetes, the current American Diabetes Association guidelines are a disaster for Type 1 diabetics. The ADA recommendations for carb intake actually make blood sugar control much harder and increase the likelihood of dangerous low blood sugar episodes.

In contrast, the ketogenic diet makes blood sugar control much easier, and our new book, "The Ketogenic Diet for Type 1 Diabetes" provides the practical information to implement a ketogenic diet in the context of managing type 1 diabetic insulin needs.

Coauthored with Dr. Keith Runyan, a physician who treats his own type 1 diabetes with a ketogenic diet (with the result of an HbA1c of 5.0) the book contains over 200 pages of referenced, applicable information on getting off the blood sugar roller coaster, avoiding hypoglycemia, lowering HbA1c test results and avoiding diabetic complications.

If you have Type 2 Diabetes, you’ll want to purchase a copy of “Conquer Type 2 Diabetes with a Ketogenic Diet”, which was also coauthored with Dr. Runyan and offers information specifically written for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

Until next time,
